Meet Debi

Debi provides empathy-based counseling that has its roots in self-psychology. She
believes her role is to journey with each person in their holistic healing while
addressing their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social-relational needs
and understandings. Debi believes that engaging and exploring the wisdom gained
through lived experience enables a person to cultivate their strengths and uncover
the skills to use in the healing process. She specializes in working with people who
have experienced trauma, especially domestic and sexual violence. She is
comfortable assisting people in learning about their religious trauma and those
processing grief.
Debi encourages people to participate in both individual and group counseling
opportunities as the person determines their needs because each opportunity offers
different benefits to the person. Debi reminds people that participation in
individual and group counseling are by their individual choice. Person-centered,
person-led treatment goals are formulated and together the person and Debi create
manageable steps so that each person has a personalized plan to reach these goals.
She believes by supporting people in their autonomy each person is allowed use of
their voice and choice which helps them to become empowered in their healing.
In 2020, Debi graduated from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary with a
master’s degree in pastoral care and counseling and has an advanced certificate in
self-psychology and religion from the Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of
Chicago. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and is an
ordained clergy person in the United Methodist Church. Debi has been working
with survivors of domestic and sexual violence since 2013.
At this time, Debi does not provide couples or family counseling services. People
wishing to schedule with Debi must choose to participate in counseling without the
permission of another person.
